Making money by selling ebooks: 4

Ebooks FAQ -- Page 4

Plan: make a plan, write it down

Building an online income will take time. We want you to be realistic that building your online income will take time. Consider writing down a business-building plan with goals and steps. It starts with you deciding what your online business is all about... what you'll be doing... what is your theme/topic/specialty. You can rewrite the plan from time to time but a plan gives focus and direction to everything you do. Otherwise it is so easy to get sidetracked.

Incidentally, one of our ebooks is all about establishing your own Business Plan. Another covers the basics of running a successful online business. You get them free when you join.

Price: what price can I sell them for?

We have over 1100 members out there selling ebooks they get through us, and understandably we dont have control over them. But we have a policy that's clearly spelled out in the Members Area: "Although we can not force everyone, but we do advise all of our members to sell the Exclusive Products at the Recommended Retail Prices. Please Respect the Value of the products and respect all the Hard Work Our Authors have put to create the products. Please also Respect the marketing efforts of other members. Can I sell three of these books for the price of two? Yes, you may have a deal like that on your books, but do use wise judgment in doing so."

So the policy is that exclusive ebooks should not be sold under the nominated price. But the older ebooks (eg from the FreeToSell package, also supplied by Tom Hua) can be sold at discounted prices or included as bonuses or even given away as incentives.

Reading: can I read these ebooks?

Can you as a member read all the ebooks? Absolutely. It seems to me that even if someone doesnt want to sell a single ebook, just becoming a member of eBookWholesaler makes jolly good sense to be able to download and read the entire inventory. But since you can also sell them, why not do that too, eh? All the profit is yours.

Realistic: what can I realistically expect to make?

I like the fact that you're aware there is a learning curve and that you're basically asking "how long will it take?" That means you dont have an unrealistic fairyland idea that it's dead easy. Or that you’ll make a 6 figure income next year.

There are skills to learn, but it can be done. The fact that you are keen to learn means you're half way there! We have over 900 members who pay their fees each month: this surely means that they are making money from reselling ebooks. If they can, why cant you, eh?

Naturally we can’t make any promises of how much you'll earn. That wouldnt be ethical anyway. And it really does depend on many factors outside our knowledge or control, such as how much time and skill you may have to contribute, how fast you learn, what computer and marketing knowledge you’re starting with, etc.

The days of instant riches from the 'Net are gone (if they ever existed) but on the other hand I believe that the Internet provides us with access to markets of undreamed size. Our task, once we have products worth selling (and you've found them now) is to learn how to direct enough of that traffic our way.

Rules: do you have any rules that members are to follow?

Yes, we do. And thanks for asking. They're designed to protect the value of your membership in www.eBookWholesaler.com and to respect the value of the work by authors and publishers.

Sell: where do I sell the ebooks from?

(See also Domain and Accepting payments)

It’s your business so you can choose where you sell from. Either you set up some new pages on a website you already have or you may choose to buy a new domain. That's up to you.

Important:
To have your online business taken seriously, don’t plan on using some freebie site. You definitely want your own domain name (eProfitNews.com is the domain name of this website). Let me ask you: Which looks better?: - http://www.tripod.com/members/eprofitnews/index.html or http://eProfitNews.com?

Start Pack: are websites provided?

What we provide is a single page that promotes each of the ebooks in the pack. (You'll recall that the Start Pack is the top 10 ebooks from our FreeToSell.com website: eBay Marketing 2002, Classified Ad Secrets 2002, Credit Secrets 2002, Wholesale Sources 2002, Self-publish at the Speed of Thought, Your eBook Daily Marketing Plan, A Cheap And Easy Guide to Self-publishing, The Ultimate eLibrary, The Internet Marketers Secret Guide, eBook Cover Templates). For each ebook there's a graphic and 1-2-3 paragraphs of text, all ready for you to copy into wherever you feel is appropriate at your site.

Start Pack: can I personalise these 10 ebooks?

You can, with these ebooks with 8 flexi-links:

1. Your Full Name
2. Your URL
3. Your Email Address
4. Your eBookWholesaler RevSharer ID
5. The Hosting Company you wish to promote
6. The Internet Marketing Web site you wish to promote
7. The Affiliate Program you wish to promote
8. Any Other Web site you wish to promote
Starting out: I haven’t got a mailing list so where do I start?

A realistic answer comes to mind from Brian Garvin: - he says if you don’t have your own mailing list yet, then use PPC search engines. (And of course, build your mailing list: - it's the long term key to a good income. Almost everyone says that.) You will find a lot of good content in the Subscribers Vault at eProfitNews.org -- and it's free to subscribe, so why not do it now?

Starting out: what do I do first/second/etc?

Big question! But in one respect, the 'formula' is simple and involves 4 elements:

  1. In-demand products
  2. Qualified targeted traffic, your potential buyers
  3. A payment system
  4. Good copywriting, to explain the benefits of the products to your potential customers.

Now we can help with #1. We also explain (inside the Members Area) how to upload your branded ebooks and websites to the server of the host you're using.

We recommend Clickbank for #3.

We provide #4 with each ebook+website package we supply. They are all ready to upload.

So that leaves you to attend to #2. Much has been written on this important area, including:

  • on building a mailing list (see also Mailing list)
  • on using free classified ads to get started (one of the ebooks in our Start Pack shows how to write effective ads
  • on capturing the email addresses of those who visit your site
  • on writing ezine articles and submitting them free for wide distribution, etc.

If you need more on this whole area of promotion, marketing, traffic generation, and list building, you'll find a lot of resources in the menu column to your right. Enjoy!

Support: how much will I get?

Let me tell you what assistance we make available.

1. Inside our member's area at eBookWholesaler.com, you'll find a lot of help including a step by step list of instructions on everything from downloading our ebooks to your computer, then uploading the files to your web host’s server, etc, etc… a great deal of information to help you get started. Including how to set up to accept payments.

2. Our online training includes material on how to promote ebooks on the web.

3. A forum where you can ask questions and get help from other members, as well as from the moderator of the forum Terese King. There's also a searchable database of answers.

4. We supply banners, text ads, email scripts, images.

5. Email support.

Uploading / downloading: what’s that?

Uploading to your server means copying files such as ebooks and websites from your home computer to whatever server your website "lives on". It's where your website is currently hosted. Maybe you use a free website. Maybe you choose a paid service. It's your call. (For notes on choosing a web host, please see Hosting.)

Downloading is the opposite. When you copy files (such as songs or ebooks) from a computer "out there on the Internet" onto your own home computer, you are downloading. Now you know!

Downloading your branded ebooks from eBookWholesaler is easy. We just provide a link, and you click on it. All you have to remember is where you stored it on your home computer.

Website: can I use your website (I dont have one)?

A website is just a collection of electronic bits of information which is displayed on computer screens when people visit those websites either by typing in the URL or clicking on a hyperlink.

But WHERE do these electronic bits reside before they appear on your computer screen? Technically they reside on your web host's server, in a part of his (or her) disk space which he is renting out to you. The service he supplies is called hosting or webhosting.

So: in order for you to have a website that people can visit and buy from, you need 2 things--

#1. the "website" with all the words and images arranged nicely. That's what we supply with each ebook. It comes as a downloadable package, available from inside our Members Area.

#2. a web host who is selling you the use of some of his server space.... this is where your website lives.

You'll need both. Here are some links to cheap hosting (that's #2).

eBookWholesaler supplies ready-to-use websites (that's #1). For help with building your own mini web sites (that's also #1), I recommend Mini Site Profits.

Websites: do I need a different site for each ebook?

Thankfully no. Okay, you might want to set up a separate website that ties in with the theme of a particular ebook or two. Themed sites like that do very well, and can attract targeted traffic through the search engines.

But you can also load a lot of ebooks onto the one domain... just give each ebook a different page or a different directory (or folder). Why? So that each page or directory has its own theme... again for the search engines.

Websites: what will my ebook websites look like?

In a word, they'll look... great! To see the attractive websites which we supply, all you need to do is go to this page at eBookWholesaler.com. You'll find all the ebook covers and under each ebook, there is a link named "Click here for the details of the eBook". That will take you to the webpage which you'll get. Nice, eh?

Each of our exclusive ebooks has its own website, available for you to download to your computer from inside our members area. All you then do is change a few of our links to insert your own details (so you get paid!), then upload your personalised site to your server. And you're ready to promote.

Here are several typical examples that I have uploaded. Professional and impressive, arent they?

Zipping / unzipping: what's that?

Zipping is a process of compacting an ebook or a website or any computer file, so it fits into a smaller package. Why? So it transmits faster across the Internet. We all want things faster today, dont we? And for those who are paying for their online time, faster downloads are cheaper.

To download a zipped file (example: ebook.zip), just place your cursor over the hyperlink, RIGHT click and select 'Save Target As' or 'Save Link As', then choose where you want to save it on your computer. What I do with ebooks is download them to a special folder I have created called 'My Ebooks': - then inside it, I create a new folder for each new ebook, so that all the files for that ebook are together but not mixed up with files from any other ebook.

Once you've downloaded a zipped file, all you need to "unzip" it is a software program called Winzip (or similar). You can download a free evaluation copy from WinZip.com. As soon as you click on any zip file (such as "ebook.zip"), WinZip will open it for you. If the zip file contains several files, they will be listed. Simply click on any file to open it.
